To be able to enter an ISPS compliant zone, you need to activate your Port Pass. Activating a Port Pass means we link the pass to your identity. If you have never done this before, we first need to establish who you are. We do this using biometric verification:
You scan your identity document
You take a selfie
We compare both and run a set of security checks
This process takes around 5-10 minutes.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
✅ An invitation email from your employer
This contains the personal activation link you will need to start the activation process
✅ A device with a camera and an internet connection
Preferably a smartphone, but a laptop with a webcam can also be used
✅ A valid identity document
We support identity cards and passports. The document must not be expired, undamaged and fully readable.
✅ A well-lit place to take pictures of your document and your face
⚠️ Important: Bad pictures of your document or face can result in a failed activation.
Step 1: Use your invitation link
Open the email you received from Port Pass
Click or tap the activation link to open the Port Pass activation page in your browser.
Follow the on-screen instructions to start the process
⚠️ The invitation link is valid for 48 hours. If it has expired, contact your employer and ask them to send a new link.
Step 2: Scan your identity document
You'll be asked to scan your identity document.
Choose which documents to scan (ID card or passport)
The options depend on the information your employer provided
Take clear photos of the front and back of your document
Follow the on-screen frame and instructions
Make sure the whole document is visible
Avoid glare, blur and reflections
⚠️ Some things to take into accounts:
For All Access passes, the document ID or passport ID provided by your employer must match the scanned document ID or passport ID. If it does not match, activation will fail.
The document you scan cannot be expired.
If your document expires during the validity of the pass, the pass is only valid until the document expiry date.
Step 3: Provide your address (when required)
Depending on your nationality, we need some additional information for ISPS compliance:
Non-Belgians:
We are legally obligated to store your legal address. Please enter your correct address.
Belgians:
We store your National Registry Number, which is captured directly from your identity document. You don’t need to type your address.
This information is used in the context of ISPS legislation and port security.
Step 4: Scan your face
Now your document has been scanned, we need a selfie in order to:
match it to your scanned document
see if it is really you activating the pass, and not someone using a picture of you
Please make sure to:
Make sure the lens of your camera is clean.
Keep your face inside the circle. If on a smartphone, it can help to keep your phone vertical and at eye level.
Turn so that you are facing the source of light, not having the light source behind you.
Please remove glasses, hats, caps, scarfs, ... or any other object obstructing your face. |
Step 5: The result
Now you have scanned your document and have taken a selfie, we can check if there is a match. There are 3 outcomes:
Result | Meaning |
Approved | We have positively confirmed it is you. Your pass has been activated. |
Review | You first have the option to retry 3 times. If all of your retries are depleted, we will send your information to a human operator to verify.
They can either:
|
Rejected | Same as review |
After successful activation: Your QR code
Congratulations on activating your Port Pass.
You will receive an email with your QR code and instructions on what to do next.
Your Port Pass can be:
Saved in your Apple or Google Wallet
Printed to keep it in your physical wallet
(Only for All Access) Stored in the Port Pass App
The QR code contains a secure, partial representation of your digital identity. You use it as a key to enter ISPS-compliant sites that accept Port Pass.
To be as secure as possible:
We remove all traces of your biometrics from our servers
This means your QR code is unique and cannot be recreated
⚠️ If you lose your QR code, your employer will need to buy a new pass and you will have to redo the activation flow.
